N E W D I R E C T I O N - Building A Wardrobe you absolutely L O V E!

I've realized now more than ever that my wardrobe just doesn't work for me. Over the years I feel like I just accumulated clothing. Don't get me wrong, some items I loved, some just MEHH... but they worked. Now I find myself frustrated and distressed when trying to find an outfit as my lifestyle has evolved but my clothes haven't. Another issue is that I'm just not in love with the pieces anymore. My tastes have changed... which is one of the reasons why I haven't been posting as much. But I'm on a mission to build a new and improved wardrobe. And I've decided to share how I'm going about it...

  1. Assess what you Have.
  2. Take everything out of your closet and I mean everything. Sort through your clothes and take inventory. Make a note of what is lacking from your wardrobe. Make piles of most worn items, Occasional wears and stuff you either don't wear or are just not sure about.
  3. Get rid of what you don't need. Make piles based on what you want to keep, donate, give away or sell. Try on clothes that you are not sure about and make a decision. I know we all have those pieces in our closets we are emotionally attached to, but if you're not going to wear them or do something creative with it just get rid of them, they're only adding to your clutter. The only exceptions should be seasonal items such as gowns, sweaters, rain boots etc.
  4. Make a list of what you NEED. First, take inventory of what you do have. Then take it from there. Ensure these items are ones you absolutely NEED and would add value to your wardrobe. I would suggest putting the list into groups i.e, Basics, statement pieces, work wear etc. I will write another post with suggests of what to buy.

THE OUTFIT - this photo was taken a few months before I decided to do my clear out. I actually only have the skirt and scarf in my wardrobe. I used to love the top but I found that I didn't wear it after these pictures were taken... I'd say maybe 4 months, so I knew it was time for me to part ways with it. Oh my, the shoes, I didn't want to get rid of it but I had to. It's woven detail was torn in a few places. Now, that was a very depressing moment because this shoe was a Love... And that's fine too, all good things must come to an end. Just be sure to replace it with items that are even better. 😁😉

WHEN THE SUNSETS...

The perfect date night begins with a sunset right? How romantic, well at least I should think so. Imagine sitting and talking with your date about life- aspirations, dreams etc. Do they even do that anymore? Well, I'm advocating to bring it back.
Ok, ok, let me get back to the outfit. Of course, you want to look your best on a date night but you should also be comfortable. This way you're not fidgeting or too concerned about anything else but your date.
For me simplicity is key. Add a little sexy to it and voilà the perfect outfit!

So, this is my outfit for a typical date night. Very simple with minimal accessories. I love wearing oversized t-shirts with bodycon skirts, in my opinion, it's the right amount of sexy... My thoughts are I want to look good but not too showy, I want the attention on my face and our conversations rather than my body.

I opted for a monochromatic all-black look... And it's not grungy at all. It looks quite put together and chic. Like not much effort was put into it.

COMFORT

What's the first thing you think of when putting an outfit together?
For me, most times, Comfort! I just love to feel comfortable in whatever I'm wearing, I guess that's why I am so drawn to the bohemian style.
For many there's a complete thought processes when arranging an outfit. This maybe a conscious thought or it maybe be unconscious. I have come to realize, as with much of everything learned/ nurtured in life so too are we with clothing. We make unconscious choices based on our past experiences. For example, I remember when I was about 10 or so my mom took my sister and I to Coconut Park in Jamaica, I was dressed in a matching short set. It included a boxy buttoned up top much like the one in this photo and a shorts that was down to my knee. I remember how much fun that day was and how comfortable I felt. I think unconsciously I attached those feelings to that type of clothing. Believe it or not, we do attach memories and emotions to specific clothing items. These feelings maybe be good or bad but we almost always gravitate to the clothing that elicits good memories in essence those that make us feel good about ourselves. However, sometimes individuals use clothing as a security blanket, a means to hide from the world. I won't go in detail with these ideas but I'll definitely start a series that explore why individuals wear the type of clothing they do.
Back, to me 😊 and this outfit... As I've told you before or you probably have noticed, I'm not a fan of much colors, but I do like Blue. Fortunately, it does make me 'blue' 😁 -bad joke right?  I like how its looks against my skin and I do believe some colors make you look better than some. So, make a point to find out what colors work for you. Ok, I'm a rambling mess, please bear with me.... I always seem to pair boxy tops with fitted bottoms. Its something to do with the shape it gives my body. ( I have a boyish shape). Tucking the front of the shirt in the shorts creates shape and little bit of edge. This outfit works everytime when I'm running errands or a day at school because its easy to throw on but still have me looking like I made an effort.
Yes, I wear boots in Jamaica! Sue me 😁 These are very comfy and not hot at all. Bought them from Target.

BOHEMIAN DREAM

I'm a sucker for messy hair. Those beachy laid back waves just gives an effortless look. I feel it makes a woman sexy  and seem as if she didn't try too much..."Yes, I WOKE UP LIKE THIS!" ...Well, not quite :). There's a little technique to getting your hair to messy perfection, if that makes any sense?! I used my Remington curling wand, alternating the curls towards and away from my face. This creates a lot of texture and also prevents it from being too uniformed. Then I gathered the hair in my palm and scrunch it to loosen the curls and add a little frizz :D.
Bell sleeves are in and I thought it matched my beachy bohemian look. The  white dress  has a crisp and dreamy look. The lace detailing on the sleeves adds a nice whimsical touch... I love layering necklaces especially when my outfits have a deep V-cut it draws attention to the area making it seem delicate and dainty. To complete the look I chucked on some boots because I simply wanted to. It gives a 'No Fuss, No Muss' vibe and that was my aim.
I'm not a makeup guru by any means but I wanted my makeup to be soft and dewy which I believe was achieved. Do you agree?

The simplicity of this look is what I absolutely loved! I've been trying to stick to what works for me and this does. From here on out, I'll continue on this path as I believe it suits me pretty well. Let me know what you think! I'd love to hear from you...

SUNNY DAYS & DENIM SHORTS.

This summer seems to be the hottest yet! And its not just the heat, the environment is so humid...making you feel sticky and sweaty. I would give you really cool and useful advise about how to beat the heat but its quite far fetched, let's be honest. Unless you have a personal air conditioner walking around with!?... in that case I would need the hook up! :) My 'practical' advise is stay out of the sun or load up on SPF!!
On days that are really sunny, I like to feel comfortable and have maximum breeze passing through my clothes. A distressed Denim shorts is always my first pick. If I'm showing legs, I like to keep my top covered up as best possible ( my 'rule of thumb'). So, an over-sized button down seemed accurate. This outfit is simple but trendy... Let me know what you think!

I added the hat because no summer look is ever complete without one!

The right accessories always gives your outfit an extra oomph. I love layering my necklaces and stacking bracelets

GETTING FESTIVE**

It's that time of year where, there are tons of office parties, family dinner parties and feting on a whole. So, what the heck do you wear! Firstly, think about being bold it's Christmas after all. A time to be cheerful and bright and giving... I say give a little with an eye catching outfit. Nothing says Christmas season more than a bright pop of colour. Greens & Reds have always been staples of the season. There's no rule that you need to wear a specific shade of red or green just choose the shade that goes best with your skin tone. For me I've never been a fan of red but I definitely prefer it to Green. I think Red says BOLD, DARING and CLASSIC. Its timeless and if done right screams sophistication.
I was looking for an outfit with a very mod vibe. This burgundy matching set was perfect! The mix of suede with satin creates the most unique flair. Ooh my Gosh, the ruffles on the top is so extravagant and intricate, definitely a conversation piece...
As you all know chokers are back! I have here a custom suede choker which I believe completes the look.
If you want to be the "Belle of the Ball" you wont go unnoticed wearing RED! My shade is burgundy. Whats yours?
