DIY Style Guide - OBSEVER TeenAGE

This was just a fun shoot!! My friend Chavon a TeenAGE writer asked me to collaborate with him
to provide DIY inspired looks. I love DIY projects its a chance to make old pieces New...especially thrift store finds. You'll never say  'I have nothing to wear ...'

Polka-dot-a-licious
The blazer was a thrift store find that I couldn't resist but the shape was too unflattering very 80's. So, I tailored it a bit to fit my physique. For a complete look, I style this statement blazer with a basic white dress, a black belt and black heels.

Your boyfriend's Shirt
Have nothing to wear? Why don't you raid your boyfriend's closet!
Jazz up an over sized shirt by making a knot in the front or tuck them in some high waisted jeans to create a retro look.

OOTN!

Denim on Denim
It's totally OK to pair different shades of denim! The key is to mix the weight and wash of the denim.
....and please Don't over accessorize, you will look a total mess!!
BTW the shorts Chavon is wearing was a pants!

I've been style stalking this girl for months! She has a very vintage style with an Afrocentric twist that is intricately put together... Somehow, it just works. I thought, damn...I have to style her!! I created a vision in my head of what I thought she would look amazing in. From the makeup, hair, right down to the accessories... The icing on the cake was her grandmothers dress. The story around that dress was just surprising. Apparently, her grandmother bought this dress in Harlem,NY some 30 years ago!!!
Here's the final look!

The dress has a simplistic charm about it. A mix between a 3/4 sleeve button down and a A-line pleated skirt. The dress originally came with a matching belt but I decided to add this gold and black metal belt to modernize the look. Her look is complete with these brown sandals.
